How did you get into your current job/field?

I used Octopus and loved it so much I wrote a book about it. The book led to me meeting Paul in London and eventually asking if I could help out at Octopus.

What's a fun fact about you that people may not know?

I'm a self-taught multi-instrumentalist. I wanted to do music at school, but they were oversubscribed. I had to do art, which I'm pretty terrible at. If you've seen the "Meanwhile in DevOps" cartoons, you already know I can't draw!

What is your favorite project you've worked on at Octopus Deploy so far?

We're doing some original research which is super-exciting. We also get to participate in some large-scale research projects like DORA's State of DevOps Report, and the CD Foundation's State of CI/CD Report. When something surprising comes out of a research project, you get to learn so much.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

I write occasional opinion pieces for small music magazines and I work on some low-key open-source projects.

What excites you most about working at Octopus Deploy?

Octopus has a solid culture, backed by values that inform real-life decisions within the company. We're solving one of the fundamental challenges of modern software delivery and when we do it, we improve the outcomes for individuals and organizations.

If you could eat one meal for the rest of forever - what would it be?

Something pizza-adjacent.

Is there anything else you'd love to share with us!?

Absolutely - I'd love to share metrics! It's my favorite subject as I believe we can do amazing things when we let data inform our decision making. Whether it's DORA metrics, MONK metrics, or something context-specific, we can find the truth in all the interesting stories that surround us.
